Creating a Copy of a Dimensional Object

The Use as Template operation allows you to create an OLAP object that is a copy of the original without using an XML template. The new object has all of the attributes and properties of the original except for those that must be unique, such as the name.

To create a copy of an OLAP object:

  1. In the Connections navigator, right-click a cube dimension, cube, or cube measure folder.

  2. Choose Use as Template to display the Create Object dialog box. Below the Name field, the dialog box displays the name of the object being copied.

  3. Specify a name for the object and make any other desired changes to it, and click OK.

Note:

If you create a measure or a calculated measure from an XML template and a measure or calculated measure with the same name exists, the values in the XML template overwrite the values in the existing object.
